Hotspot Shield is a virtual private network (VPN) service and technology focused on privacy, security, and freedom of information. The company grew out of AnchorFree, founded in 2005 by David Gorodyansky and Eugene Malobrodsky. The VPN lets users browse the internet with an unidentifiable IP address to ensure anonymity while connected to public Wi-Fi hotspots. Hotspot Shield's secure servers use advanced encryption technology to protect user data from being intercepted by hackers or other malicious actors. In addition to its free offering, Hotspot Shield offers a paid version called Elite that comes with more server locations and better performance.
