Xamarin is an application framework that lets developers build cross-platform mobile apps. It allows the use of a single shared codebase written in C# across iOS, Android and Windows platforms. The framework provides tools for managing platform-specific code, either through abstraction or direct calls into native APIs. Xamarin integrates with Visual Studio on Windows and Xamarin Studio (now Visual Studio for Mac) as well as with other popular development environments.
